I’d like to recommend the Franklin Covey website’s Mission Statement Builder. If you would have mentioned it to me in my 20’s I would have laughed for the next 5 minutes. But since I began recording favorite quotes in my Palm Pilot 5ish years ago I began to notice patterns in what I was collecting, and began to realize I really did have documentable values.

I finally caved in 2003 and took the FC Mission Builder – which is implemented in a nice Wizard in the form of a series of “answer this quickly” value questions. The answers alone are highly insightful. But then they have you turn them around into action statements.

The other night I stumbled across both my 2003 and 2005 Mission statements and was intrigued to see that they had probably some of the most significant impact on changing my way of behaving over the last few years than anything else. So I decided to do it for 2007, and with 3 data points I can begin to see they do a good job of chronicling the shift in my focus over that time frame.

I would recommend it, especially for anyone who feels like they could benefit from a tighter focus of their activities toward what is more valuable to them.
