You know, I’ve always made the case that life in corporate IT is drastically different from life in a real software company, and I still believe that to be true but… there might be more similarities than I’ve suspected. Apparently, not all the stupidity in corporate IT is driven by the fact that nobody sells what we build.
To explain this, let me explain what made me realize things weren’t completely different. I recently started reading Bug Bash, a comic strip by a manager at Microsoft (arguably a real software company). Part way through the strip he leaves Microsoft to work for MSNBC.com (a real web content company). What’s interesting about this is that the strip makes fun of a lot of the same things that drive me crazy about corporate IT. Here’s an example.
This strip has been running for several years and I think is consistently funny and depressingly insightful. I added it to my daily read.
